Whether you love to be by the pool or beach or have to commute in those sunny days for long hours or you are enjoying outdoor trips with friends and family, all you need is to keep your skin safe from the sun. There are endless number of expensive cosmetic products stacked in the stores that claim to keep your skin protected from tan. But remember that these products are packed with heavy chemicals that may or may not suit your skin type. They may even cause pre-mature skin ageing and in the long run, your skin may start sagging.

At such juncture, when you are sceptical about trying high end cosmetic products, play safe and try easy homemade anti-tan face masks that not only works effectively in protecting your skin from tan but also leaves your skin looking supple and glowing. There are these few ingredients that help in removing and protecting your skin from sun tan and applying this mask 15 minutes before you step out in the sun will suffice. In case you are a morning person and hit the roads in early hours, then you can even apply these masks at night.

  1. Saffron & Milk Face Mask

Saffron has been used since ancient times as skin lightening and brightening ingredient while milk makes the skin look squeaky clean and supple. This pack also uses lemon, which has acidic properties that removes sun tan effectively.

How To Prepare:

Mix two to three drops of lemon juice in lukewarm milk and add saffron strands to this mixture. Mix well and massage the mixture evenly on your face and neck. Allow it on your face for maximum 10 minutes and rinse off with cold water. Follow this procedure twice a week to see glowing results.

  1. Gram Flour & Aloe Vera Face Mask

Gram flour is extremely great for smoothing the skin and cleansing the pores deeply and aloe vera gel gently removes excess oil, dirt and even tan from the skin while cooling it. Adding yoghurt to this mask eliminates the necessity for opting for skin bleaches.

How To Prepare:

In a bowl, mix two tablespoons of gram flour and one tablespoon of yoghurt. Now add some aloe vera gel and form a thick paste. Apply this anti-tan face mask on your face and neck and let it dry for 15 minutes. Gently remove the mask with cold water.

  1. Sugar, Glycerine & Lemon Face Mask

While lemon works excellent in lightening your skin tone, sugar is great for removing dead skin cells. To combat all the extremities that your skin texture goes through in this process, there is glycerine that ensures your skin remain soft and moisturised even after you remove this mask.

How To Prepare:

Mix equal parts of lemon juice and glycerine in a bowl. Add one tablespoon of sugar and don’t not stir. You can either apply it as mask or even use as a scrub by moving it over your face and neck in circular motions for 10 to 15 minutes. Rinse off with cold water and pat dry.

  1. Tomato, Lemon & Yoghurt Face Mask

This face mask comprises of ingredients of acidic nature. While tomato and lemon work great as skin brightening agents, yoghurt helps in keeping the skin supple and radiant looking.

How To Prepare:

In a bowl, mix a tablespoon of tomato juice and add one teaspoon of lemon juice. Add yoghurt and make a thick paste. Apply it on your face and neck evenly and leave the anti-tan mask for 15 minutes. Wash off with cold water and pat dry.

  1. Cucumber & Lemon Juice Face Mask

Cucumber works wonders on tanned and tired skin. It uplifts your skin and brightens its appearance. Lemon juice is a natural bleach and has citrus acid to remove those stubborn tan marks. You can add rose water in this mixture to let your skin get toned and moisturised. You will have to lie down and apply this mask because it is a runny liquid!

How To Prepare:

In a mixing bowl, add one tablespoon of cucumber juice, two teaspoons of lemon juice and one teaspoon of rose water. Mix well and apply the juice on your face in three coats. Let the first coat dry for 2 minutes and then apply the second and third coat. Allow it dry for 15 minutes and rinse off with cold water.

  1. Orange/ Lemon Peel With Milk Face Mask

Orange/ lemon peel powder comprise of high amounts of vitamin C and citrus acid, which lightens the skin tone naturally and milk helps in restoring the moisture that the citrus acid may rob off from your skin.

How To Prepare:

In a bowl, take one spoonful of orange/ lemon peel power and add a teaspoon of raw milk to it. Create a smooth paste and apply on face and neck evenly. Leave it for 10 minutes and then wash off with water.

Finely grate cabbage and squeeze its juice in a bowl. Add some honey for making skin smooth and gram flour for binding the mixture into thick paste. Mix a pinch of turmeric and apply the paste on your face and neck. Allow it to dry for 15 minutes and then rinse off.

How To Prepare:

Grind pink lentil to fine powder and add aloe vera gel to it. Mix some tomato juice and keep the consistency thick. Apply this pack gently in circular motions and leave it on face and neck for 10 to 15 minutes and wash off with cold water. People suffering from acne and blisters can avoid using this mask as the lentil particles aggravate their skin condition.

  1. Saffron & Gram Flour

Saffron definitely renders magical effect on the skin and gram flour is a deep cleansing agent that removes dirt from deep inside the pores. You will also require yoghurt since it works as a natural bleach and contains zinc that helps in soothing sunburns.

How To Prepare:

In two tablespoons of yoghurt, soak some strands of saffron overnight. In the morning, add one spoon of gram flour to this mixture and let the consistency be thick. Apply it evenly on your face and neck and leave it to dry for 10 to 15 minutes and then wash off. While removing, ensure that you move your palms in circular motions on your face so that the sun tan can removed to get luminous looking skin.

Caution: Some people are sensitive to acidic nature of many of these natural ingredients and using them can cause mild to severe skin irritation. So always try a patch of any of these masks on the back of your year or below your chin first. Moreover, don’t use these packs for more than twice a week as anything in excess can damage your skin’s health. People suffering from acne must consult their dermatologist before using these natural products that may be acidic in nature.
