10 Flowers That You Should Never, Ever Give as a Gift

Flowers That Should Ever Give as a Gift

Usually, when you are not sure which gift to give to a person, you always go with the flowers. A single flower of a whole bouquet is usually considered a safe bet when it comes to gifts… right? Actually, it is completely wrong!

Not all flowers serve as a great gift. As with most things, flowers have meaning behind them. Mostly depending on the strain of the flower and their colors. Some of them have a historical background that has vilified them over the years. But the bottom line is, you can’t be too sure with flowers.

We asked our friends from an UK flower delivery website to tell us which flowers we should never send as a gift to a person we like. Here are some of them.

1. Begonia

Begonia is a beautiful flower that is usually mixed in a bouquet with other flowers. This is done because of its true meaning. Begonias symbolize deep thinking and are not a positive gift by themselves. Better have that in mind next time when you are thinking of giving Begonias as a gift.

2. Buttercup

A Buttercup is a kind of a flower that you usually see children playing with. It is beautiful but should never be given to a lover because of its true meaning. Buttercups signify childishness and if you give it to somebody, it can mean that you consider that person not serious enough or immature.

3. Yellow Carnations

Carnations come in different colors. White Carnations are considered a perfect gift as they symbolize pure love and sweetness. But the yellow ones have a completely opposite connotation. In fact, Yellow Carnations mean rejection and disdain and although they look beautiful, you should only give them to somebody that you don’t like.

4. Aconite

Aconite, also known as monkshood, is a really pretty flower, probably the prettiest on this list. But it may have the most sinister meaning behind it. With its purple flower it seems really attractive but Aconite comes with a warning. When you give this flower to somebody you are telling them to be careful as you don’t like them. The flower generally signifies hatred towards somebody and serves as a warning.

5. Cyclamen

Cyclamen is yet another flower, which looks really beautiful. It looks very attractive and may fool you thinking that it is positive due to its pink color. The truth is completely opposite as you should never give a Cyclamen flower to somebody that you love. This flower means separation and you should only present it to a former lover or to somebody you are going to break up.

6. Petunia

Petunia is a really striking flower and does look very nice. On the other hand, it holds a dark secret. Petunias are a symbol of anger and resentment. You should only give them to somebody that you really don’t like, for instance, your most despised enemy.

7. Orange Lilies

Lilies are a very beautiful flower and are considered a very popular gift. But they come in different color schemes and even though other colors have a positive meaning the orange one certainly does not have it. Orange Lilies are a symbol of hate, pride, and disdain. Know this before you make a mistake of giving it to somebody as a gift.

8. Butterfly Weed

A Butterfly Weed is probably the worst type of flower that you can give to somebody that you are in a relationship with. This flower, although good looking, actually means leave me. Your lover will not view this in a positive way so be wary when you are choosing this kind of a flower.

9. Sunflower

Sunflower is perhaps the flower that reminds everyone on the sun but is not a good gift. When the Spanish invaders reached the Americas, they saw a field of Sunflower from the distance and thought of it to be gold. We all know how that turned out to be, so Sunflower today has a meaning of false riches. You really do not want to wish that upon anybody.

10. Black Rose

A Black Rose is probably the most mysterious kind of a flower on our list. Its counterpart, the Red Rose is a symbol of passionate love, but the Black version is something more deadly. In fact, the Black Rose is the symbol of death and should not be given to anyone under any circumstances. It still looks beautiful, but Black Roses should be avoided at all costs.
