Best Hindi Horror Movies

With a long weekend coming up in just another couple of days, the usual option of a long drive out of the city with family or friends is of course good. However, those not looking to venture out can still have a good time at home watching the bunch of Hindi movies online that we’re recommending. And no, this list doesn’t include romantic movies! How about spicing things up a bit with some frighteningly cool horror movies?

All you need is a ZEE5 subscription and an active internet connection, and you’re good to go. So, order in some pizzas & beverages, relax on your couch and prepare to be scared out of your wits. This list of horror Hindi movies online would be ideal for a perfect change instead of the usual hero-heroine saga or mushy family dramas. Just put your brains on standby mode and enjoy spine-chilling Hindi movies online.

Let’s take a look at our selection of 5 Hindi horror movies –

1. Raat

This is more than two and a half decade old Hindi horror movie made by Ram Gopal Verma, the undoubted genius of Indian cinema. The fact that Raat trumps our list goes to say that this movie has not lost its horror quotient even today. This is one of the best Hindi movies online with respect to the horror genre.

This story of how a well-settled middle-class family gets thrown into terrifying chaos and fear can still unnerve many calm viewers. Some of the scenes from Raat such as when Revathi, the female lead, starts exhibiting the possession of evilness, the dead cat’s eyes showing on her face, and her smiling devilishly will surely send chills down our spines! The ending of the film, involving an occult specialist could also be unnerving, and we would ask you to sum up all the courage before you watch it.

2. Roohani Taaqat

This can be described as a typical “masala” horror but certainly has its fair share of fright elements. The story involves a demon being invoked to settle scores by villagers. When her husband is killed by this demon, the woman vows to exact revenge on the demon by learning occult studies.

Made again about a quarter of a century back, some scenes of this movie may not be as disturbing as the earlier one, but there is a good amount of violence thrown in.

Disclaimer: You can catch this move after watching Raat, as it can help you get rid of some of the disturbed feelings you might have from watching the former.

3. Naani/ Navsari Ka Rahasya

This dubbed Hindi movie of the original Kannada version has a good measure of horror and some family saga elements infused that shows up on the screen every now and then. And hats off to ZEE5 for getting it dubbed and helping its Hindi viewers to become fans of South Indian cinema.

The story is about a test tube baby who could live only until the age of 13 years. The palatial bungalow where the child was born is now locked up, and the unhappy spirit is said to be wandering in the same place. A new couple enters this bungalow, and now they have to face the upcoming horror and fright.

There are specific scenes that can be quite chilling, and the storyline keeps the viewer hitched until the end. It is not just a typical horror movie, but a good dose of family story thrown in, and an ending which is worth being watched.

4. Pizza

The movie is a remake of a Tamil hit by the same name. The plot is intense and thrilling with plenty of twists and turns that will not permit the viewer to look away from the screen. The last half an hour of the movie is too thrilling to be missed, and we can bet you can never take a hunch as to what’s going to happen.

It will be an injustice to reveal even a threadbare storyline. This is something that the viewers have to experience for themselves. Only the first 40 minutes might seem a little slow to take off, but once you’re in, there is plenty of engaging content. Also, we think this movie kick-started his Sethupathi’s (the lead) career in Kollywood.

A few of the horror elements are done so creatively that you’ll be left wanting more. It would be fun to watch a movie called Pizza with actual Pizza and a bottle of Coke, don’t you think? Well, we do so!

5. Manjulika Returns

We recommend this movie to be watched in the last so as to get over the distaste and fright of watching chilling, horror, gory and even some disturbing scenes from the other movies. This is a horror movie of a ghost who comes to haunt and ends up

making everyone happy, including herself. There are moments here where you’ll be laughing and scared at the same time!

End the weekend with a broad smile on the face and go back to work fresh the next day!

That pretty much sums it up! Let us know which movie got you scared the most? Our favourite is, was and will always be Raat, but what is yours? Let us know in the comment section. See you on the next one.
