DJI Mavic 2 Pro vs. DJI Phantom 4 Pro

Mavic 2 Pro vs Phantom 4 Pro

Both of these drones are incredible. These drones are the most advanced drones on the market. High performance, lots of features and strong durability are found in both models. Moreover, by just reading about them you would think these drones must be identical. However, as soon as you see the pictures, you notice that these drones are not the same. Mavic 2 Pro is a pocket drone, and because of that, it can be folded to take as little space in the bag as possible. On the other hand DJI Phantom 4 Pro is a large drone that cannot be folded, and because of that, it is hard to be carried around.

Simple to Use

I must say that Phantom 4 is better in this segment. With Phantom 4 you will receive a good controller with a screen. There is no need for anything else and does not require a smartphone. On the other hand, the Mavic 2 Pro needs a smartphone which is attached to the remote controller. The use of a smartphone as a screen may be a disadvantage for some drone pilots, but to most, it will not represent any trouble.

Camera

Both drones have a magnificent camera. Phantom 4 is capable of recording at 60FPS on the 4K resolution. Mavic Pro 2, unfortunately, can do only 30 FPS on the same resolution. However, the Mavic Pro uses the latest lens which gives the higher quality of the picture. In this comparison, it really depends on what are you recording, if you are recording animals running animals then you sure will make a better video with Phantom 4, but if you are recording still landmark then the Mavic 2 Pro is a better choice.

Field of view is also larger in Phantom 4. Phantom 4 is also better at taking pictures in low light scenes. Mavic 2 Pro has difficulties in that area, and the pictures may be blurred. That blurred images will need to be fixed on the computer to be enjoyable.

Flight Time

Phantom 4 can stay in the air for 30 minutes while the DJI Mavic 2 Pro can stay a whole one minute longer. I am not sure if that is a significant advantage and that it needs to be considered at purchasing.

Range

Another not important performance difference. Phantom 4 can be controlled on 7 kilometers while Mavic can be controlled on 8 kilometers. But knowing that you are breaking the law on such a high controlling range, I can say that the range is also not an important factor in choosing your quality drone.

Speed

Both Phantom and Mavic can do 45 miles per hour. There is no difference at all in this area.

Obstacle Avoidance System

The clear winner here is Mavic 2 Pro who uses all side sensors, and there is really hard to make this advanced obstacle avoidance system to fail. You cant even catch the drone with your hands because the system thinks it is an obstacle. Phantom 4 also has a decent obstacle avoidance system but not as good as Mavic 2 Pro.

Tracking Software

There is a significant difference in tracking. Mavic uses an advanced latest version of Active Track 2.0 while the Phantom is stuck on the 1.0 version. That tells you enough that the Mavic has updated software and it obvious that the new updated software is working better. The new software also gives you three new modes of tracking: Spotlight, profile, and trace. With such versatility, Mavic 2 Pro is a clear winner here.

Noise

Both drones are noisy. Phantom is doing 80Db while the Mavic pro is making 70Db. This means that both of these drones cannot be used in spying. They are just not quite enough, and anyone near the drone will hear it.

Price

Both drones are expensive, and you will need to pay premium money for them. Mavic 2 Pro is the latest model, and because of that, it cost a few extra dollars more than a Phantom. We can say that the Phantom takes the lead when you look at the price.

Who is the Winner?

It is really hard to tell because with no doubt Mavic 2 Pro has better flying performance, it is a more durable drone and have the new updated software. With such features you can do more in the air, you can stay longer in the air and make longer videos. If you have use of the tracking software then with no doubt the Mavic 2 Pro is a better choice for you.

In case you are looking to make high-quality videos in highest possible resolution then I must say Phantom 4 Pro is much better in that area. Phantom 4 Pro is taking pictures with less noise and has a much larger field of view. But the final choice is up to you.
