The fact about Diarrhea

Diarrhea is a condition where a person experience frequent and loose bowel movements. This is paired with belly cramps, nausea, stomach pain and weakness. Usually diarrhea is caused due to food poisoning, infections, parasites, disorder in bowel movements or reactions to certain food or medicine. Diarrhea causes the body to get dehydrated and so drinking plenty of water is recommended. However consumption of citrus fruit juices is to be avoided as they may cause the situation to worsen.

Effect of grape juice on the body

Fruit juices are generally high on the compound called Sorbitol. Sorbitol is a form of sugar that is indigestible by the body and can disturb the digestive system. When a juice loaded with sorbitol is consumed the body gets into the process of diluting the sugar content. For this the body tracks the water from bloodstream and pulls into the intestine. The containing of too high amount of water in the intestine causes the loose stools while the body gets dehydrated. Grape juice and apple juice in particular have high amount of sorbitol in them. Therefore no matter how refreshing or nutritious the grape juice may seem like it causes diarrhea when consumed in high amounts.

Grape juice solves constipation

Grape juice contains natural magnesium and Vitamin C. But it is the Sorbitol content that results in both diarrhea and curing constipation. While the high sorbitol content can result in loose stools and frequent bowel movements, the same can be a benefit to a person who is facing constipation issues. Grape juice when consumed in constipation can help in loosening of the stools and get a clear bowel movement. However one needs to be cautious with its use as too much of grape juice can accelerate diarrhea and make it difficult to cope up with the dehydration in the body.

High sugar levels in grape juice

Grapes are known for their natural sweetness and a tangy taste. The high amount of sugar and calories in the fruit already makes it one of the fruits to avoid if you are cutting down on calories. Grape juice in particular has high amount of sugar in it. Grape juice contains more sugar than a can of cold soft drink. Therefore even though you consume a fresh glass of grape juice it is doing no good to your body in terms of calories and sugar.

The hazards of processed grape juice

Processed grape juices are loaded with extra sugar. The high amount of sorbitol further leads to diarrhea making it unsuitable to drink for both adults and children. Further the processing of the juice causes loss of vitamins for which a lot of brands go on to add extra Vitamins to make the juice nutritious. Consuming processed grape juice can be dangerous to your digestive system and make the diarrhea more prone.

Grape juices are relatively worse than fresh grapes. If you are a fan of grapes consider munching on them raw. Grape juice can induce diarrhea and disturb the bowel movements. However it can be consumed for treating constipation at times.
