Better Photographer

Did you know that in 2018, there were over 40,000 photographers in the U.S.? And, while you may be part of this percentage, how do you ensure that you stand out from your competition?

Let’s face it, photography is a constantly changing field. And, while you may have the basics down pat, there are plenty of ways you can improve. Here are some professional headshots for your convenience.

Are you trying to figure out how to become a better photographer? Here’s everything you need to know about improving your pictures.

1. Choose Perfect Lighting

When you’re learning how to become a better photographer, be deliberate with your lighting. While harsh lighting is best for phone cameras, you may want to consider choosing dawn/dusk lighting for professional equipment.

In addition, you may want to consider purchasing an external flash if you want to learn how to become a great photographer. This way, your lighting is controlled, and your picture quality is increased.

2. Use the ViewFinder

If you’re just starting off, you may be tempted to use your live screen instead of your viewfinder. You’ll be able to narrow down your focus, and it’ll give you an accurate depiction of exactly what you’re going to shoot.

Getting better at photography takes time. But, making small adjustments that bring you out of your comfort zone are necessary.

3. ISO

When learning how to become a better photographer, learning ISO is vital. ISO is your equipment’s sensitivity to light. If you’re shooting on a sunny day, it’s recommended that you lower your ISO in order to get a clear shot.

If you’re shooting indoors, you may want to increase your ISO to avoid blurry pictures.

4. RAW vs JPEG

If you want to learn how to get better at photography, consider shooting in RAW instead of JPEG. This allows you to adjust the highlights and colors accordingly. It also saves images that are otherwise unusable due to poor lighting and overbearing shadows.

5. Watermarks

How else would anyone know your work if your name is not on it?

If you want to make sure that no one else is stealing your photos, consider placing a watermark on all of your images. It’s important that the watermark is small enough to not interrupt the quality of the image. But, you also want to ensure it’s large enough to read.

6. Be Personable

Last but not least, you want to make sure that you have a personable aura when interacting with your clients.

Let’s face it, having pictures taken isn’t always the most comfortable thing. But, by being a pleasant photographer, you’ll soon notice that your clients will feel more at ease.
