How Can I Start Using the Missed Call Banking?

Banking and the Banks are getting innovative. They are trying to innovate things. With the help of which the customers can use the account more easily and efficiently. The missed call banking is one of those innovations that the banks in India have done.

With the help of this service, you can check your balance by missed call. All you have to do is find out the missed call banking number of your bank. And give it a missed call from your registered mobile number. Even if you don’t disconnect the call will be automatically disconnected.

The remaining balance in your account will be sent to you via SMS by the bank. But you have to make sure that you are giving the missed call from your registered mobile number only.

Now the question here in everybody’s mind is what is a registered mobile number?

There is no rocket science in using this service to check your balance by a missed call. A registered mobile number is a mobile number that you have given to the bank while you were opening the account with them.

This service will not work if you keep giving the missed call from a number that is not registered with your bank account.

Missed Call Banking

What if I have Given 2 Mobile Numbers to the Bank?

Sometimes this happens the banks ask you for an alternative mobile number as well. In such a case, the bank’s system takes the thing as primary and secondary mobile number.

One of your mobile numbers will be taken as the Primary Mobile number. The missed call banking service will only work with the primary number.

So here you have to use your Primary mobile number to check your balance by missed call.

How to Identify my Primary Mobile Number?

The primary mobile number is the one to which you receive the transaction notifications from the bank. Here what I am telling you is simple. But let me explain this with an example.

You have 2 mobile numbers 123456789 and the other one is 223456789.

When you use your ATM Card or when you get a deposit in your bank. You will get an SMS notification to 12345679. (First One) So this will be a registered mobile number.

What Happens if I Lose Access to my Mobile Number?

Ok, if you have lost access to your registered mobile number. Then this is a serious security issue for your account. You should update your mobile number in the bank as soon as possible.

However, it is a matter of huge concern because of many reasons. But let me list down some for you.

  1. No Transaction Notifications: You will not receive any transaction notifications of your account. So in case, any fraud or scam transaction takes place in your account. Then you will not get to know about it. Until you realize about the transaction it will be too late.
  2. No OTP: Whenever you want to perform any transaction online using online banking or debit card or credit card. The bank’s system will send the notification to your registered mobile number. But you will not receive them. This means you will not be able to complete any transactions online.

What Should I Do Now? To Get Back the Access?

There are so many articles that I have read online. Those articles claim that you can change your mobile number online. But no you can not change the mobile number online. It is a huge instrument for the security of your bank account.

So to alter this information in your bank account. You have to visit the branch of the bank and get it changed. Go to your branch and tell the bank that you have lost access to your number. They will ask you the mobile number you are currently using.

That number will be updated in the bank records and you will start receiving the SMS notifications and OTPs on that number. And at the same time, you will be also able to use the Missed Call Banking Services.

Ok, Now How to Use This Service?

So far we have covered every requirement you need to use this service. You now know about the registered mobile number and also know what to do if you have lost access.

Now let us assume that you have access to the mobile number. (registered)

There are 2 cases in front of you and they are.

Case 1: This Service is Pre-activated for You

Some banks preactivate this service for their customers. If your bank has done this then all you have do is find out your bank’s missed call enquiry number.

And just give a missed call.

Boom! you are done with it the bank’s automated response system will take your request. And within the next 30 to 60 seconds you will get an SMS from your bank. You will get your balance details in that SMS.

Case 2: You Have to Activate this Service

If your bank has not activated this service for you. Then you have to do that before you can start using this service.

But how to do it?

The process is very simple all you have to do is just send an SMS from your registered mobile number.

Every bank has got it’s own SMS banking keywords. Just go to the official website of your bank. And find out that keyword. Type in that keyword and send the SMS.

This service will be activated and now you are all set to use this service.
