How to Choose the Right Med Spa

Choose the Right Med Spa

A med spa, or medical spa, is a combination of a medical clinic and a day spa. In addition to offering esthetic treatments, med spas also provide treatments like Botox and dermal fillers, laser hair removal, chemical peels, and treatments to tighten and rejuvenate your skin. These treatments help to treat issues that can’t be treated by an esthetician. Med spas also operate under the supervision of a medical doctor or medical director. There are many med spas out there and here’s how to choose the right one.

Read Reviews and Get Recommendations

Your search for a med spa will most likely begin online. In addition to finding the names of those close by, make sure that you also take the time to read some reviews. You can find reviews right on Google, on the med spa’s website, and on other sites as well. If you know anyone who’s been to a med spa, ask them about their experience. While you’re researching your options, you can also check the Better Business Bureau website to find out about their reputation and experience. The BBB will also provide you with information regarding any complaints that may have been filed.

Your Consultation

Before you have any treatments done, it’s imperative that you have a consultation. During your consultation, you’ll be asked about your complaints and what you want to achieve. The goal of your consultation is to determine the best treatments to meet your specific needs. You should feel comfortable during this consultation. If something feels off or wrong, ask questions. If you still don’t feel confident, it might a good idea to keep looking.

Viva Med Spa explains how the consolation will go, “Our experienced medical spa practitioners will work with you to develop a personalized plan to meet your specific beauty objectives.

The Experience of the Med Spa

No matter what type of procedure you’re having done, you want that procedure done by someone who has experience. Technicians who have a few years of experience are better than those with only a few months. You can also gauge experience by finding out how many procedures the med spa performs each month as well as how many repeat customers they have.

Who’s Performing Your Treatment?

Again, you want someone who is a trained professional performing your procedures, no matter how simple they might seem. There are some states that don’t require establishments to have a license, which means the person performing the treatments could have very little, or even no, experience at all. Avoid these places at all costs. Look for a spa that has a board-certified plastic surgeon or a medical physician trained in cosmetic procedures on staff. Also make sure that there are other certified nurses and estheticians. All of these professionals have extensive training and proper licensing. These are the people you want performing your procedures.

How Old is the Equipment?

Take a look into the type of equipment that the med spa uses to perform procedures you’re interested in. There have been numerous advances in the tools and technologies used to perform a variety of procedures, improving results and reducing pain. You want to make sure that your chosen med spa uses the most up-to-date equipment, and that the people using it are highly trained in it.

Ask to See Before and After Pictures

Sure, you might be promised a certain result, but it’s best to see real life results for yourself. Ask your technician to see before and after photos of the treatments you are being recommended. Some med spas even have these types of photos on their websites, which will give you a realistic idea of what you can expect.

Sona Med Spa has some great examples on their website, “These are before and after images of real patients who have achieved the look they want through a variety of treatments for both face and body.”

Not all med spas are created equally. Make sure that you do your research before you select one to have treatments done. No matter how simple or complex the procedure is, you want to have a trained, experienced, professional doing it. Taking the time to research your options will help to ensure that you get the best results possible.
