tips to train your bulldog

You know them for their stubborn nature, but they are not challenging to be trained. Keeping a dog is something more than giving him food and spend some time. To develop a good relation with your bulldog, you need to understand them and know how to control them. Bulldog popularly known as English bulldog is a good choice as a pet as it is lively, relaxed, and active dog breeds. Everyone love their bulldogs, and they get stuff having prints of bulldog on them, you will find lots of English bulldog stuff to get for yourself and even for your dog to make him happy.

Start Training from an early stage

If you have a bulldog puppy, it is the right stage to train your dog. Early stage training helps the puppy develop particular habits from the start and follow them throughout. The basic potty training, eating time schedule, behavior in social circles, all should form a firm base at an early stage and will help the dog throughout its life. Take your dog to a particular place in your house. You can wait for the dog there so he is done with the potty. After that give him a reward. This may take a month or two but with patience and perseverance, you can accomplish this.

Memorize the dog his name

Most of the people forget to call their dogs by a specific name. You have to think of a name for your bulldog and call it. When the dog pays attention to you on the call give him a treat. Perform this for few days and your dog will get familiar with its name.

Build a home

A home is a place where everyone feels safe. Build a small house for your bulldog so that it can rest there. You will need to spend some time to take the dog to the home so that it will learn to go there for rest. Don’t make your dog stay in the home as a punishment.

Command training

Commands like sit, stand, run, and bark, are necessary for a dog to learn. While you start a command training session with your bulldog go for one command at a time. Teaching more than one command will confuse your bulldog. Start with basic commands like sit, stand, and never start another one before the dog learns it well. You can also teach some other commands like ‘leave it’ and ‘drop it’ with your bulldog.

Keep the training session short

Bulldogs have short attention spans and can’t spend more time on one activity. So keep short training sessions with your dog up to 5 -10 mins. The training session should be a playful activity rather than one restricted to commands.

Treat Behavior issues

Behavior issues are not quite common in bull dogs, but in case you see any change in your dog, try to treat them with care. Don’t leave them alone, as it can result in dangerous consequences.

Appreciate your dog

Appreciation changes everyone. When your dog does something good, like doesn’t make your house dirty or finishes his meal in time, appreciate them. This will encourage the dog to behave the same next time.

Avoid Punishments

Bulldogs are known to be stubborn and your punishment will do more harm than bringing good to you. They can’t speak but understands the emotions, so try to show patience with them.
