Know The Most Common Signs of Serious Issues In Pregnancy

Serious Issues In Pregnancy

If television and movies are to be believed becoming pregnant is as simple as two people meeting and gazing into each other’s eyes. The woman then glows softly, has a pleasant pregnancy with no real change to her daily life, and gives birth to a healthy baby.

Of course, the real world is different. An estimated one in 35 men has fertility issues and one in three women over the age of 35. That means your first port of call is actually a reputable obstetrician Sydney to have everything checked out.

Even if you are lucky and get pregnant with assistance, one in four pregnancies ends in miscarriage, leaving a path of emotional turmoil.

Should you be lucky enough to get pregnant, you need to be aware of the most common signs of serious issues. The faster you seek help the better the chance of a positive outcome.

If you are pregnant and experience any of the following you should seek emergency medical treatment immediately.

  • Vaginal bleeding
  • Severe and persistent headaches
  • Extreme fatigue possible accompanied by fever
  • Extreme abdominal pain
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Fits, seizures, or other convulsions

Any of the above suggests there is something seriously wrong with you or the baby and you will need emergency medical intervention. Although it is not always the case, you must be prepared to lose the baby.

Other serious issues include fever, mild but persistent abdominal pain, swelling of features, especially your face, legs, or fingers, and a general feeling of being ill. You know your body best and will be able to tell if everything is okay or not.

If you are suffering from any of these symptoms you need to book an appointment at your health clinic for as soon as possible.

Getting Help

One of the hardest things when you have serious symptoms is acknowledging them and doing something about them. Although you will be naturally worried about the unborn baby, seeking help means confirming the issue. Avoiding help can help you to pretend everything is okay. However, this is not beneficial to your or the baby.

You need to communicate the issue as quickly as possible. The simplest option is to have a code system set up on your phone. Define each code. For example, one means vaginal bleeding, two means severe abdominal pain, and so on. You can then text this number to your partner or someone that is helping you through the pregnancy. They can then handle everything and get you the help you need. It immediately takes the matter out of your own hands and ensures you get the best possible help.

Support Groups

If you do suffer complications during pregnancy then you should be aware there are plenty of support groups that you can speak to. Your obstetrician can recommend one or two in your area. They will be women who have gone through similar experiences and will be happy to help you deal with yours.
