Latest Differences Between JEE Advanced and JEE Main Syllabus

Differences Between JEE Advanced and JEE Main Syllabus

JEE Main and Advanced both are a very prominent exam for engineering aspirants. However, there does exist a few major difference between JEE Main syllabus and JEE Advanced. JEE Main is the first level examination which is a necessary criterion for attempting the JEE Advanced. So, let’s go through the major differences in the syllabus of JEE Main 2019 exam and JEE Advanced.

Differences between JEE Main and JEE Advanced Syllabus

JEE Main Syllabus

Though both the examinations are for gaining admission in engineering and architecture colleges, yet there lies a lot of difference between the syllabus of JEE Main and JEE Advanced. While the topics for JEE Main concentrates on basic concepts, the syllabus for JEE Advanced revolves around the advanced and elaborate topics.

Below listed is a detailed study of the syllabus for JEE Main and JEE Advanced in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.

Chemistry

The chemistry section of JEE Main is divided into three main categories including physical chemistry, inorganic, and organic chemistry. It is a combination of mathematical practical problems and theory. The theory part covers the basic concepts of chemistry, states of matter, thermodynamics, kinetics and much more under the physical chemistry section. Under inorganic chemistry, the topics covered include the periodic table, coordination compounds and the elements in each block.

Under organic chemistry, the important topics ranging from basic principles of organic chemistry, biomolecules, hydrocarbons, principles related to practical chemistry and much more.

Physics

The physics section extensively deals with the basic elements of Physics. These include thermodynamics, work and energy, kinematics, motion, magnetism, current electricity, optics to mention a few. The examination syllabus also comprises of experimental skills in the form of mathematical problems.

Mathematics

In comparison to all the three sections, Mathematics is noted to be the toughest and hence need more preparation. The sums are time-consuming and often difficult based on the analysis of previous year papers. Major questions are asked from trigonometry, statistics, probability, calculus, vector algebra, permutations and combinations, and matrices. Other topics included in the syllabus are sets, relations and functions, complex numbers and quadratic equations, coordinate geometry and limit and differentiability.

Note: Being abreast with the Class 11th and Class 12th syllabus will aid in easy sail in the JEE Main examination.

JEE Advanced Syllabus

Similar to JEE Main, the JEE Advanced topics for Chemistry is divided into Physical Chemistry, Inorganic, and Organic Chemistry. However, one addition in the syllabus of Physics is the characteristic reactions of Alkyl halides, Haloarenes, Ethers, Alcohol, Carboxylic acids, Amino Acids, peptides, Carbohydrate, uses and properties of Polymers and practical and organic chemistry.

Other Topics Include

General Topics and Isolation of Non-Metals Properties of  Non-metals
Chemical Kinetics Preparation and Properties of the following Compounds
Nuclear Chemistry Transition Elements (3D Series)
Energetics Preparation and Properties of the following Compounds
Solid, Liquid and Gaseous States Principles of Qualitative Analysis
Chemical Equilibrium Ores and Minerals
Electrochemistry Extractive Metallurgy
Solutions Preparation, Properties, and Reactions of Alkenes
Atomic Structure and Chemical Bonding Preparation, Properties, and Reactions of Alkenes and Alkynes
Surface Chemistry Reactions of Benzene
Phenols Basic Concepts

Physics Syllabus

The topics for Physics include the following:

General Concepts Electromagnetic Induction
Mechanics Optics
Thermal Physics Wave nature of Light
Electricity and Magnetism Modern Physics

Mathematics Syllabus

The syllabus of mathematics is similar to physics and chemistry that are in tandem to IIT syllabus for JEE Advanced. These include:

Algebra Analytical geometry (2 dimensions)
Trigonometry Vectors
Differential calculus Analytical geometry (3 dimensions)
Integral calculus

Tips for Preparing for JEE Main and JEE Advanced 2019

  • Go through the entire syllabus.
  • It is necessary to go through the entire syllabus of the subjects to grab admission to IIT JEE Mains and Advanced.
  • It is necessary to be abreast of all the important aspects of the chapter starting from the basic theories to the advanced ones.
  • Aspirants must check the syllabus from time to time and ensure no important topic is left out.
  • Ensure to go through the topics, study in detail and cover all the topics whether easy or difficult ones in advance and do not leave any for last minute preparation.
  • Prepare a good time table and follow the schedule so as to avoid last minute clashes.
  • As per the notification, there is no revision of chapters nor syllabus for the examination as of 2019. While for JEE Main, Class 12 preparations can be very helpful. The preparation for JEE Advanced needs a comprehensive plan and complete solution for preparation.

For achieving the best results proper knowledge about the exam plays an important role. Thus, these were some latest changes that candidates must keep in mind while preparing for the exam. All the best.
