Lockdown Has Caused 49% of Surveyed People to Consider Plastic Surgery

People to Consider Plastic Surgery after Lockdown

During the COVID-19 lockdown, The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) surveyed 1000 people with no prior plastic surgery experience. They found that a startling 49% of those surveyed said that they are open to getting their first procedure.

What’s truly remarkable is that a similar survey in 2014 revealed that only 17% of respondents would consider their first plastic surgery, while 49% were completely against the idea.

Why the massive shift in attitudes?

The Quarantine Fifteen

A lot of people found themselves putting on a little bit of extra weight during the lockdown in a trend that many are calling putting on the Quarantine 15.

It has been a perfect weight-gain storm for a lot of people. Public gyms are closed, or too crowded to be comfortable. At the same time, stress eating has become a new daily meal.

You might start trying to diet and exercise to lose the weight. However, if you’re over 30, you may soon realize that losing weight gets considerably harder as you age. So, getting something like a liposuction procedure may be the best way to get the results you want and get your pre-COVID body back.

The Zoom Effect

The lockdown has also changed the way we work, with an estimated 42% of the entire US workforce now working from home. That’s a lot of video calls. That’s about 300 million daily Zoom calls and about 100 million daily Microsoft Meet calls, actually.

If you find yourself constantly checking yourself out on these video calls, you are far from alone. Countless people are looking at their own face, and wondering if they have always had frown lines or bags under their eyes.

Combine this with a lot of new double chins because of the weight gain we mentioned earlier, and this is causing hundreds of thousands of people to reach out to plastic surgeons to inquire about facelifts.

Recover From Home

Working from home has opened the door for a lot of people to get plastic surgery and then inconspicuously recover from it while working from home.

In their previous 9 to 5 lives, they would have possibly had to use a number of vacation days to recover from plastic surgery. Now, they can rest at home and stay productive, while saving their vacation days for a real vacation.

According to the ASPS, there were about 1.8 million cosmetic surgical procedures in the year 2019. It’s hard to predict what the 2020 numbers will look like, with so many variables involved. However, a group of plastic surgeons found that clinics in the U.S. have seen a 60% increase during the COVID-19 pandemic.

So, if you’re looking in the mirror and considering your first plastic surgery, you’re not alone. You’re actually part of a growing majority.

As a matter of fact, you might want to call soon because there could be a waiting list.
