Food Items to Be Avoided

Food is one factor that decides the state of health and mind of any individual. Thus, people should stay cautious while selecting a food item.

Not all food items which seem to be nutritious provide the required nutrition; on the other hand, there are food items that might be nutritious in ways but can harm the health in the long run.

To avoid any such confusion, concerned people should visit a doctor to ask which food is beneficial or harmful. There is a list of doctors at Hospital who advise avoiding certain food items in our daily routine.

French Fries and Potato wafers

Potato is a rich source of B6, Magnesium, Fibre, and Antioxidants, which makes it a very healthy food item. Though, it does not provide the same benefit in the case of potato wafer and French fries.

These food items are high in calories and can be easily consumed in excessive quantity. Even various studies claim that potato wafers and French fries result in weight gain.

Potatoes can be consumed in the boiled form to avoid high-calorie intake.

Processed Cheese

It might come as a surprise, but cheese helps in weight loss and prevents the risk of osteoporosis as well as heart diseases. A single slice of cheese is packed with the entire nutrients equivalent to that of a glass of milk. Though, these perks are available only on consumption of certain categories of cheese, specifically regular cheese.

When it comes to processed cheese, they are made of filler ingredients and appear like cheese.

To avoid any confusion, it is advised to check the label and read the ingredient whether the cheese has an artificial ingredient or dairy products. The list of real cheese includes- mozzarella, cottage, and feta. Vegan cheese is also considered as a good alternative.

Fast food

Most of the options available on the fast-food menu are junk food. These junk food items are produced in massive amounts with fewer amounts of nutrients.

Consumption of fast food may pose a high risk of diseases and harm the general health, specifically the fried items.

Looking at the concern of people, nowadays fast-food chains have also started to offer healthy options.

Sweetened dishes

We are surrounded by dishes and drinks which are high in sugar content and appear to be healthy. Some of the food items include- sweetened breakfast cereals, packaged juice, ice-cream, and even candy bars. Added sugar is one of the worst ingredients in the diet. 

For example, when an individual drinks liquid calories, the brain does not register them as food and this way the total calorie intake is increased. When taken in large amounts, sugar can elevate insulin resistance and pose a severe risk of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. It can also result in heart disease and type 2 disease.

Processed meat

The processes meat is not considered as healthy and nutritious as the unprocessed one.  According to studies, it is observed that the consumption of processed meat is associated with a higher risk of type-2 diabetes, heart diseases, colon cancer and many serious ailments as such. 

In case an individual wants to have bacon, pepperoni or sausages, it is advisable to buy from a local shop.

With the above mentioned points in mind, it is not difficult to differentiate between healthy and harmful food items.  There are plenty of food items available in the market which seems to be healthy but, actually they are not; one such example is diet coke. To match the original taste of coke, artificial sweeteners are used; whose harmful effect is mentioned above. 

It is better to focus on whole foods, rather than packaged and processed food items. This will help in maintaining health without much effort.

One best way to avoid such food items in routine diet is to listen to the body’s cues and focus on textures and flavors of the food items.
