Indian Entrepreneurs Who Made It Big Starting From Nothing

Indian Entrepreneurs

Entrepreneurship is the complex art of not giving up even in the face of failures. It needs determination, grit, and an undying tenacity to pursue your passion. While budding startups worldwide are making huge strides in the face of adversaries to sustain and excel in a competitive world, there exist some Indian entrepreneurs who started really small and did not give up when the world was adamantly unfair. As per the information available in Tofler.in, here’s the list of 4 major Indian Entrepreneurs.

1. Dhirubhai Ambani

No list of Indian entrepreneurs can be complete without the mention of Dhirubhai Ambani, the pioneer behind the behemoth Reliance group. Born in a Gujarati Modh family in 1932, Dhirubhai Ambani started his entrepreneurial journey young when he was still in school. Every weekend, he would sell bhajiyas to pilgrims on their way to Mount Girnar. Later after matriculation, he went to Yemen where he worked at odd jobs. After having worked as a gas station attendant and a clerk in an oil company, he decided to come back to India with ₹50,000 in his hands. He invested this capital in setting up a textile trading company. This initiative later grew as the Reliance group. Reliance became the first Indian company to feature in the Forbes 500 list and is a known name worldwide today.

2. Prem Ganapathy

Things started off quite bad for Prem when he was stranded at the Bandra station with no money or food or water or an acquaintance for that sake in the city. He was taken to a temple where people were urged to contribute money for his return tickets to Chennai. Prem, however, refused to go back and stayed in Mumbai working at a restaurant as a dishwasher. He later moved to a tea shop where he worked as a tea boy. He later partnered in a tea shop business and then opened a stall of his own. Later he decided to open his own south Indian stall and after some years inaugurated his ‘Dosa plaza’ near Vashi station. With 108 varieties of dosas being served, Dosa Plaza became a huge hit. The chain now has 26 outlets and over 150 employees with a turnover of 5 crores.

3. Patricia Narayan

Patricia started with selling eatables at Marina beach during her bad days while battling a difficult husband, a failed marriage, and the responsibility to raise two small kids. She would sell from a mobile cart pulled with hands. Later on, after having saved up, she went on to open a stall of her own which has now grown into a chain of restaurants. The chain produces a turnover of ₹2 lakhs a day. Patricia was awarded the ‘Entrepreneur of the year award’ recently for her Sandeepha brand of restaurants.

4. Ramesh Babu

Ramesh Babu is essentially a very rich barber. His unique sense of hair styling made him famous among his customers. He later went on to start a car renting business which has grown into a mammoth success now. His fleet consists over 200 cars now including a Rolls Royce, 3 Mercedes cars, and several from the BMW series.
