The Best Spots to Hit on Your Next Whale Watching Trip

Whale Watching

The world is starting to open up again, and many countries are beginning to welcome tourists back for travel. If you’re an outdoor enthusiast, try a truly spectacular way to see some of the best wildlife the world has to offer—go whale watching! Whales are migratory creatures, so they are easy to track around the globe. Dependent on the time of year, you can visit them just about anywhere in the world. Here are some of the best spots to catch a glimpse of these majestic beauties.

1. Australia

Australia is one of the top places to catch a peek at many different species of whales. This vast continent offers plenty beyond whale watching—the Great Barrier Reef, the Sydney Opera House, and the famous Uluru rock are all notable activities while visiting. Whale watchers in Australia can find different whales on different coastlines, dependent on the season. Some great spots are:

  • Sydney: For some of the best whale watching, Sydney offers a guaranteed peek at the Humpback whales as they migrate north. Anywhere from May to late November you might be able to spot whales, but June, July, and September are prime months.
  • Perth: You can also see humpback whales in the Perth area, but venture just south to Albany, and you might be able to spot the annual killer whale migration. June to November are good times to whale watch in these areas.
  • Queensland: Queensland is home to the ever-popular Hervey Bay, where you can spot the humpbacks. If you visit in July and August, you can attend the Hervey Bay Whale Festival and participate in the concerts and parades.

Dependent on the time of year, you might be able to spot other animals like dolphins, sea lions, and more.

2. Canada

Canada is another great country to visit for whale watching enthusiasts. There are two main spots to visit in Canada:

  • Vancouver Island: A stunning island in itself, anytime from May to September you have a good chance of catching killer whales in pristine blue waters.
  • Quebec: Quebec is popular for the variety of animals you might see from June to October—not only can you expect humpback whales, be ready to see blue whales and even beautiful beluga whales.

Canada also offers breathtaking coastlines, trendy cities, and stunning scenery all over the country. It truly appeals to a nature enthusiast.  Whale watching is a wonderful activity that will leave you with memories to last a lifetime.
