What Do You Need to Know About USMLE Step 3 Courses?

About USMLE Step 3 Courses

The USMLE Step 3 Exam is the final exam in the series of the United States Medical Licensing Exam. It is basically a test to get a license of practicing medicine in the United States without supervision. In this post, we are going to tell you some most essential points about the USMLE Step 3 Courses. Let’s get started without further due!

Knowing the Exam Format:

Before taking any exam, the first thing you need to learn is to know the format of the exam. This exam is taken after obtaining a medical degree. The Step 3 is, unfortunately, a two-day examination. On the first day, you will come across 233 Multiple Choice Questions and they are divided into 6 blocks of 38-40 items.

You must keep in mind that there are only 60 minutes allotted to complete each block of the exam. So, altogether, you will have to spend 7 most crucial hours of your life to complete the first-day step 3 test. And yes, you’ll be given 45-minute break along with an optional tutorial.

On the second day, 9 hours is allotted. And, you will come across 179 MCQs with a 5-minute optional tutorial again. The items are divided into 6 blocks as were on the first day and each block contains 30 items.

Again, you will be given 45 minutes to complete each block. There is a 7-minute CCS tutorial as well on this day. You will have a 45 minutes break and an optional survey on the second day of the test.

When Should You Take the Exam?

One of the most important things we would like to share with you is that you don’t need to take the 2 exams in two consecutive days. You can take the two exams as you want to. You can schedule them as per your convenience.

You can have even a week’s gap between the two exams. Go with whatever is suitable for your schedule. Another thing to consider is when to take the exam for a year.

Generally, you need to take the Step 3 test during your intern year of residency. You can get the license application during the second year if you take it during your intern periods.

Everyone takes the exam in their own convenient way so there is no direct answer to the question of when you should take the exam. Be tricky to take the test and that’s it.

Cost of the Test:

You can take the Step 3 test after completely clearing the Step 1 and Step 2 tests. The USMLE Step 3 exam is tough as well as costly. The fee of this test is approximately $850 for eligibility periods which varies and is non-refundable. It is also non-transferable.

How to Prepare?

To be honest, there is no exact answer to this question. If you are sincere and dedicated enough, then 1 month is enough for the preparation of this exam since you have already passed Step 1 and Step 2. Have the USMLE Step 3 Courses in your collection, make a daily routine, and follow the routine every day as you did earlier.

Retake Options:

Yes, you can retake the test under certain conditions but they are really time consuming and annoying.
