Why Are Object Recognition Test (ORT) And X-ray Test So Important!

Object Recognition Test ORT and X-ray Test

Aviation security screening has become one of the most important concerns because of the increasing number of threat items in customer’s bags. These items are hard to recognize when placed in closed bags or superimposed by another object. That’s when X-ray detection come in!

X- rays are electromagnetic waves that penetrate from materials to detect threats and to spot inappropriate objects. However, the task of identifying objects depends on the knowledge  and image-based factors that only a professional can understand. If you want to be in the process of detecting and identifying threat objects, you have to surpass x-ray test.

Here’s everything about X-ray detection/ object recognization test:

Object recognition test or X-Ray tests is one of the most challenging competitive tests that aims to increase your chance of being selected as a Transportation Security officer. It’s a computer-based test of 15 minutes featuring two different sections:

  • The first section of the test contain basic English skills like selecting the right option from the given words, reading the passage and answering the questions, punctuation and spelling errors and more.
  • The second section features ORT, which is an object recognition section, in which you have to recognize the objects packed with other things in the X-ray images.

Further, the task of detection of objects depends on the factors like the type of the image and the knowledge you have about the object. The knowledge-based images refer to knowing the objects that are prohibited and how they will look in the X-ray.

Keep eye on the things like stun gun as they are difficult to differentiate among other electronic objects. There will be image of dangerous objects like knives and guns, and other illegal things like bottles, drugs and more. Besides, you only have 15 seconds to identify objects on the basis of shape, alignment, color, and angle.

Test Features:

It’s fast and Time-Bound:

The Object Recognition Test (ORT) and X Ray test is quite fast and is time-bound, which means you will get less than 15 seconds to view each slide. In that time period, you have to identify whether or not the passengers are safe to enter the aircraft.

Different Images:

In the object recognition test, you will get to see both offensive and non offensive images of the things, so be ready to encounter things like guns, knives, grenades, drugs and so on. There will also be many innocuous objects, so prepare for that too.

Complexity:

There will be various images on the screen of varied complex, which will depend on how the things are mixed or overlapped with other items on the screen. When different objects mix in a bag, many of them look hidden or sometimes are rotated at an angle that it becomes hard to identify them. You have to view them from different angles to identify the threats mentally.

Note: Once you pass the test, you might need to give it again to ensure that you surpass the first test because of your visual and cognitive abilities not by your luck.

Highly Reliable:

The object recognition test is highly reliable and needs high-quality performance. Also, due to its challenging and competitive nature, only some candidates will able to surpass it. Some recruiters even ask for the re-test just to ensure that you actually made from your cognitive skills or it was just your sheer luck!

Technical Facts Related To The Test:

  • It’s more challenging than the TSO (transportation security officer) or writing skill test
  • You will have to identify the threatening images from a load of images as per instructions
  • You will be given only 15 seconds
  • You can take practice sessions before participating in the actual test. There will be some images that you have to memorize in just 30 seconds, followed by the identification of an image on the next screen.

Score Process Of The Test:

You will be able to view your test scores within three seconds of the test. If you easily recognize the items hidden in the image, simply press ‘yes’ and if you want to pass the image as ‘ok’ simply press ‘No.’ for each correct answer, you will be given points, and for each wrong one, there’s a deduction.

So, why wait? Practice, score good and be a part of Transportation Security Administration!
