6 Things You Need to Know When You Apply Beard Oil

Apply Beard Oil

If you want to keep a beard that looks great, you should definitely oil it. Beard oil is a whole lot more useful than most people realize, and will not only moisturize your beard but also stop itching and make it easier to style.

To be honest applying beard oil is not very complicated, but there are a few things that it would help to know:

1. Apply beard oil after showers, but dry it first

In general the best time to apply beard is right after you get out of the shower. At the time your beard should be clean, and your skin pores will be open. All you need to do is towel dry it a little, then apply the oil while your beard is still a bit damp.

2. Don’t apply too much oil

The amount of oil that you need to apply will depend on your beard length and thickness. In general a short beard that has grown for about a month will only require 3 to 4 drops of oil. On the other hand a longer beard that has been nurtured for a year may need more than 10 drops.

If you aren’t sure how much to use, start small so that you don’t apply too much. Next, just keep on applying more in increments until your beard feels like it is fully coated.

3. Use a dropper

Trying to ‘pour’ beard oil without a dropper is a recipe for disaster, and will guarantee that you end up wasting a lot of it. If your beard oil bottle doesn’t come with a dropper, be sure to get one and keep it nearby.

4. Start by working the oil onto your skin

Always remember that you should be trying to oil your entire beard – and not just its outer surface. To do that you should begin by working the oil into your skin before you move on to the rest of the beard.

By oiling your skin you’ll nourish the roots of your beard, which is good for its growth too.

5. Comb your beard from the bottom up

After applying beard oil, you should comb your beard. Combing will help to not only style your beard, but also distribute the oil more evenly. However when you do comb your beard you should start from the bottom and work your way upwards.

If you start by combing the areas near your neck and only work on your chin and cheeks afterwards, your beard will be more ‘layered’ which will make it look fuller.

6. Remember beard oil is not the same as beard balm

People often assume that beard balm is the same thing as beard oil – but it isn’t. Instead, beard balm is like a mix of beard oil and beard wax, and often contains beeswax.

While the two are similar, they serve different purposes. Beard oil is better to condition your beard, while beard balm will be better for styling it.

Now that you know a bit about how to use beard growing oil properly, you should be all set. The next step is to try applying it to your beard, so that you can start to get a feel for how much oil you need to use – and how to apply it.
