Our routines for taking care of our hair are deeply personal to us.  Still, there are almost always methods that we can take up to improve it!  After all, having soft and lustrous hair isn’t a one-day sort of thing.  It’s a process that takes a considerable amount of time and energy.

That being said, it is well worth it.  If you’re looking to up your game in this department, be sure to keep reading!

I’ll provide you with a list of five ways you can improve your hair care routine, and why it’s important in the first place!

1. Adjust Your Diet

I know this one might sound strange or like a lot of work just for our hair but hear me out.  There are a few types of foods and drinks that can give you healthier follicles without needing to use any products. That isn’t to say you shouldn’t use them, but rather that you can begin with a better base!

First, eating more fish is one way.  Another is nuts.  This is because they have lots of omega-3 fats, which are vital for growth and strong strands. Additionally, be sure to load up on leafy vegetables and carrots, too!

2. Don’t Use the Blow Dryer So Much!

While it’s tempting to reach for the blow dryer after a shower, doing this too much can actually cause a lot of damage. It’s stressing the strands out, making them more brittle and likely to break. That’s right – you might be causing some of your own split ends!  

If you’re doing it because you shower in the mornings, consider changing up your own schedule. Wake up earlier if you can or just bathe in the evening. Either way works just fine.  Even cutting it back to two or three blow drying sessions a week can make a huge difference.

Now, this isn’t to say that you should go to bed with your hair all wet. Instead, use a towel and gently dry after your shampoo and conditioner. Try to limit the dryer to special events so as not to damage your scalp.  Air drying is also perfectly sufficient – sometimes I set up a small fan by my desk as I work to help with the process.

3. Wear Hats/Protect it From the Sun

We all enjoy some sunshine, but that doesn’t mean that it’s good for our scalp and hair.  Hopefully, you’re already familiar with wearing sunscreen. It’s an important part of taking care of ourselves when we go outside, as harsh UV rays can have a big negative effect on our skin.

As it happens, this goes for other things too. So, the next time that you’re planning on going to the beach, a sports game, or even just a walk, plan ahead. It can be easy to overlook protecting our hair from the sunshine, but it is quite critical for long-lasting health and vibrancy.

While a baseball cap is totally fine, it isn’t always the most fashionable. That’s why I usually opt for some style of sun hat, like the one pictured above. As long as the holes in the knit or weave are not too large, they work quite well.  They also look cute and can match with most outfits.

Remember that in the winter, the UV rays don’t disappear. For those colder months, having a beanie or other type of warm head covering is still a good idea. Even on cloudy days, it’s best to exercise caution!

4. Use Hair Stimulating Products

This one might seem a bit odd just because of the word “stimulating,” but what I mean by it is growth stimulation. You see, when you use products that can assist in this process, with some examples on this site https://keranique.com, it can be useful to your routine. How does that work?

Well, utilizing the right things for our hair can make a huge difference. With all the different hair types out there, it’s important to know our own and how different substances interact with it. I recommend that you research yours.

When you use care products that stimulate growth, it can help fill in spots that you were thinning in previously. Keep in mind that these are not harsh chemicals, since that’s not recommended for any treatment routines. Rather, they are there to promote natural replenishment. The new strands will be healthy and vital in most cases, especially if you are following the other advice I’ve provided today.  

5. Always Condition

The final tip I’ll offer today is to always be sure to use conditioner following your shampooing routine.  Shampoo is what washes our hair, obviously. However, in this process, it strips a lot of the moisture from our scalp, leaving brittle and dehydrated strands behind.

That is where conditioner comes in.  It is there to revitalize and provide moisture. There are a lot of different types, so don’t be afraid to shop around and see what works best for you. The variety of scents alone can lead to quite the journey of discovery for you. Personally, I enjoy coconut and tropical types, but more simple or exotic ones exist too!

Like I said in the beginning, this is all going to be up to your own choices. I can’t really recommend one item as a blanket miracle fix to all of your problems. However, hopefully what I’ve offered today has been helpful for you.
