How to Prepare Your Home for an Easy Sale in 2021

How to Prepare Your Home for an Easy Sale

The year behind us has been challenging in every right possible and made us rethink everything we know about home design. Comfort and functionality became more important than ever, blending the living room or bedroom and office into one. How are you to implement all the ongoing trends and present them in the best way for a lucrative sale?

Here are six steps to making your home more buyer-friendly in 2021 (and beyond).

Home Office Section

If anything, companies and their employees have become aware that it is possible to work from home, at least for some time. Whether it will remain so for the minority or majority is uncertain, but right now, everybody is interested in adding specialized work space to their apartment or house.

So, how can you create this out of nothing?

Find a suitable spot for a neat, moveable desk. It needn’t be too large – enough for a laptop, post-its, photo frame, and a brass desk lamp (it’s the latest hype). To put in the extra effort and stand out among the competition, get one of those desks with adjustable height, so that you get a standing desk at the same time. You’re bound to make a memorable impression.

Lots of Light and Space

Everybody wants this in their new home, but how do you create such an illusion in a small one-bedroom apartment?

Let’s talk floors first.

Hardwood floors are always in fashion, so make sure they are repainted if needs be, and use specialized paints for the particular wood type, such as the one for eliminating the unappealing pink  nuances. Millennial pink is still a huge hit, by the way, but nobody wants a hint of it on their shiny floor.

As for the lighting, the current millennial purchasing power adores all types of light installations. Lowered ceilings and smart lighting can compensate for the lack of natural light easily.

Add More Plants

Are you sure you have enough? The pandemic made everyone who were closed up in their flats yearn for greenery, and millennials are known to be proud plant parents. Make use of this fact by adding some popular home plant species, such as money tree, African milk tree, or alocasia.

Add More Cushions

And small pillows, and throw blankets, and anything that screams comfort. Shower the sofa with fluffy pillows and a soft blanket, and future homeowners will easily picture themselves binging their favorite Netflix shows.

Green Kitchen

It’s not just about the plants. It’s about the energy saving kitchen appliances, now more important than ever. Also, it’s about shades of green and that European feeling everyone is yearning for. Try to implement some green elements or repaint the cabinets. White and gray are on their way out.

Next, open shelves are very much appealing. The closed, clear shelves are a thing of the past and in 2021 people want to see kitchen accessories laid out. Do try to keep them in order, though.

Forget about edgy, high-tech, polished look, and get creative with some new backsplash tiles. You’ll be surprised just how much backsplash can change the whole atmosphere. Alternative materials such as copper and aluminum are very popular in 2021, and even wood comes into play.

If this is a tad too much, simply go for some tiles with bold patterns and color palette that suit your kitchen best.

Best Bedroom Ever

You’ll need to redecorate your bedroom a bit too. Think Boho. Just like the sofa, your bed is going to get that comfy boost too. Decorate in warm colors such as orange, yellow, soft pink, and forget about white and gray one more time.

In addition, some floral wallpaper can do wonders in transforming the room. Add a plant too, if you haven’t done so before. Just make sure it is of the right kind.

Bathroom and Beyond

Of course, you’re already familiar with the small hacks such as:

  • make the bathroom squeaky clean,
  • have fresh, fluffy towels on display,
  • replace the old caulking if you can’t afford the complete renovation.

However, what could you do to really impress a prospective buyer instead of them simply inspecting the pipes and nodding in agreement there are no leaks to be seen? You could do the following:

  • Have a new lighting fixture installed. This year, go bold with the lights not only in the living room. A cool chandelier may be just what your bathroom needed.
  • Add statement wallpaper — a bit unexpected, but definitely a lovely surprise should you go for the modern patterns that suit your personal spa.
  • A new tap — you’d be amazed with just how much choice we are spoiled for in 2021, and it needn’t be too pricey. After all, replacing a tap is less expensive than redecorating the whole bathroom.
  • A new showerhead — go smart with this one. Smart showerheads show the water temperature and how much water you have used, thus warning you of any waste and high water bills.  You can let bathroom visitors know these can save up to 50% of water. They also change color accordingly, so they’re quite fun too.
  • Statement mirror — need we say more? Mirrors expand the space, and who would not like to look at themselves in a mirror that seems fit to hold the reflection of a king or  queen?

Create a Home Gym

Homes have become offices and gyms during coronavirus pandemic. If there is some room or space that hasn’t been used to the fullest, think about creating a corner for exercise. This will be deeply appreciated by all gymgoers who had to give up on going to their favorite facility.

Do you really need to buy a treadmill for the purpose? Not really. Even a yoga mat, a simple mirror, and a couple of weights can be enough to inspire the buyer to picture themselves exercising in this space. If you can’t really dedicate one whole room (an attic, for instance), this would be the easiest method.

Simply place the equipment in one corner of your bedroom, and even this should do.

Expand Your Hallway

There is hardly a person who hasn’t wished for their hall to be just a bit larger so they can add another piece of furniture, or simply feel more relaxed when entering a narrow space. Fortunately, there are a few tricks to use for the purpose.

  • Install lights — emphasize the ledges with simple LED lights. Millennials are the current homebuying force, and they adore playing with lights of different types.
  • Add wallpaper with vertical stripes — an interesting statement piece that will visually enlarge the room.
  • Hang some photos or photographs — they will make a small and a bit awkward space more homely and interesting. They needn’t be family photos or landscapes. Feel free to go for some motivational or funny quotes. You can even create a mural of your own.

The above details are bound to amaze a buyer the moment they step into your home.

Final Words

Hopefully, the above tips will help you seal the deal in the shortest time possible. The only problem could be you may encounter is find it too hard to sell afterwards!
