You don’t need to read any statistics or do any real research to know that London is the birthplace of a huge number of celebrities. In fact, London is so much considered the place to be that many celebrities choose to move there; even if they have no links to the city.

If you have ever visited London it is easy to see why the capital city has such a pull – there’s always something to do, the transport links are good, there are some fantastic properties you can own and it’s the home to many big brands, record labels and event companies head office, so why wouldn’t celebrities want to be there?

Stars From London

Betway Casino recently carried out some research into where stars are from and which cities are the most star-studded. It will come as no surprise that London features heavily on the list, in fact, it comes in second place with only New York City in front – again, nothing surprising on that front!

Biggest Stars to Come From London

London is full of famous faces and celebrities; you might be interested to know that out of England’s 13 Academy Award winners, 11 of them were born in London including Maggie Smith (Downton Abbey) and Alec Guinness (Star Wars). Even some of the winners not from London aren’t from far away – with the likes of Kate Winslet from nearby Reading.

On top of that, when you look at Spotify’s top 100 most streamed articles of all time there are five Londoners that appear on the list – Adele and Sam Smith probably unsurprising names on the list. Joining them are people like 21 Savage, Dua Lipa and Elton John; showing that both new and older Londoners make the most popular lists in 2022.

11 Stars have previously won Oscars and call London home; with plenty more actors waiting in the wings to pick up awards in the future. Famous Londons that have picked up awards so far include Maggie Smith, David Viven and Greer Garson. There are even stars from ‘back in the day’ that make the list including Charlie Chaplin and Elizabeth Taylor – it seems that London has been churning out stars forever!

Outside Of the World of Glitz and Glamour

It isn’t just famous singers and actors that make the list of famous people from London, the world of sport have plenty of players that are proud to call London home. The world of art has its fair share of famous people from London too – with artists such as Francis Bacon, Richard Hamilton and Bridget Riley calling London home.

London is most definitely one of those places that are considered an entertainment hub. Whether you’re visiting the theatres around Leicester Square, a football at Wembley or watching something at the 02, there isn’t much of London you can visit that doesn’t have some form of entertainment that features famous people. But then, when you consider the Betway research that shows just how many people are famous and call London home it is no surprise that they do what they can to carve themselves out a career here. You might think that Broadway in New York is the home of theatre and music but London has its fair share of musical entertainment too. In fact, a stroll around Leicester Square will show you plenty of people wanting to sell you on the day tickets to both old and new shows, meaning that whatever you are into you’ll find something in London worth watching and without too much effort at all, you’ll be able to find something with a star or two in it as well!
